April Wind — and the Things That Lean But Don’t Break
April Wind
The roof moans.
The trees lean like old women
whispering secrets.I press seeds into soil
like prayers
into a cracked church pew.
The April wind doesn’t ask permission. It sweeps through the valley, shakes the windows, reminds the barn it’s held together by will and wire. On days like that, I plant anyway.
Some seeds go in too early. The soil is cold, the future unclear. But I press them in, not because I know they’ll grow—but because I need to believe they might.
I’ve always thought of early spring as a kind of spiritual practice. It’s raw. Uncertain. Sacred in the way grief is sacred—sharp, honest, and stripped of niceties.
We press ahead anyway. Like the trees, we lean—but we don’t break.
Garden Tip:
When planting in early spring, warm the soil by covering it with black plastic or garden fabric for a few days before seeding. It makes a surprising difference for cold-start crops like carrots, spinach, and peas.
🍵 Tea for Windy Days:
– 1 tsp dried rosemary
– 1 tsp peppermint
– A pinch of thyme
Steep 7–10 minutes. Breathe in the strength.
🖋️ Journal Prompt:
What are you planting right now—literally or metaphorically—that requires faith in something unseen?
See you next time—when the wind softens and the first sprouts surprise us.
With love from the edge of spring,
